I need advice

I am making a flannel quilt, pictured on my last post. I didn't have enough red for the outer border and the binding. It was from a kit from a year or 2 ago. So I went online and found some of the red fabric and ordered it. When I opened it today, it wasn't flannel! I didn't realize it when I ordered it. So my question is ......does it work ok to mix flannel with regular cotton fabric or will the difference in shrinkage make it look bad? Has anyone tried this before?

The flannel will shrink more than the cotton. It could make a difference, I'm not sure if it will be that noticeable. Maybe you could just get a flannel that goes with the quilt, not necessarily match the red exactly.

You can mix quilting cotton and flannel, but the flannel must absolutely have been prewashed. If they're sewn together first and washed later, the flannel will shrink much more than the quilting cotton, and you'll be a sad-Patty. I guess if I was in your shoes, I'd still shop around for some flannel. I'm sorry I didn't save you any money.

Sounds like I better look for another inner border because the rest of the flannel is not washed.....I guess that gives me an excuse to go shopping! Thanks gals.
